Dear Andrean Family,

As we continue to implement our Strategic Plan and organize for the future of Andrean High School, we would like to provide an update regarding the scheduled demolition of the Priest and Sister residences.

Following the June 11 tornado, assessments conducted through the summer determined that both residences sustained significant enough damage that they were left unsalvageable. A firewall was constructed on each residence to block access from the school proper. These two wings of our campus have been part of Andrean since its founding in 1959, serving as home to the Basilian Fathers and the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius, our first educators who helped establish the foundation of our school. In later years, they were used for excess classroom space as well as a setting for a small Chapel, modest Theatre, athletic opportunities, and storage.

Preliminary work has begun to make these sealed-off areas environmentally safe and ready for demolition, including asbestos abatement. This work should not impact the student experience given that these areas are closed off from the main campus. The timing of the actual demolition will be coordinated around the progress of this internal work, with a focus on before and after school hours, weekends, or scheduled breaks whenever possible. We anticipate minimal disruption to daily school operations as this work moves forward.

In addition to the work planned for the Priest and Sister Residences, Andrean continues to address campus needs. The Main Gym floor refinishing project, which was postponed during the summer due to the storm, has been completed since late September. Work is now underway on replacing the Small Gym floor, with completion expected early next month.

Each of these major projects is part of Andrean’s ongoing effort to restore and maintain our campus as we prepare for the next steps in our future. While the modification of these areas of campus marks the closing of one chapter in Andrean's history, it is also part of preparing our campus for the next steps in an exciting future.
